College Career The county's best defensive player the last two years of his college days, a two-time first team All-American, Duncan was a dominant force for four years in the talent-rich Atlantic Coast Conference. A native of St. Croix, Duncan was an excellent shot blocker and a force in the middle who was also an excellent passer. A psychology major, Duncan was the first player in NCAA history to reach 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds, 400 blocked shots and 200 assists. He was a two-time ACC Player of the Year and had extensive international experience playing with the USA Basketball team. He didn't begin playing basketball until the ninth grade.   • Just the second player in NBA history to be named to both an All-NBA Team and an All-Defensive Team in each of his first three seasons (David Robinson was the first and he earned the honors in each of his first seven seasons)
  • Has been named to the All-NBA First Team all three seasons
  • Named to the All-Defensive First Team in '98-99 and '99-00 and selected to the All-Defensive Second Team in '97-98
  • Named the 1999 Finals MVP Won the 1998 Rookie of the Year
  • Has been named the NBA Player of the Week four times and the Player of the Month once
  • Led all NBA players in double-doubles from 1998-99 to 2000-01
  • Played for the USA Team in the 1999 Americas Qualifying Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • Was selected to play for the U.S. Team in the 2000 Olympics but had to withdraw due to his knee injury

  • Received his degree in psychology from Wake Forest
  • Didn't play organized basketball until the 9th grade
  • Concentrated on swimming as a youngster, at one point was a top U.S. competitor in his age group in the 400 freestyle, before his local pool was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo in 1989
  • Known for wearing his practice shorts backwards, a trend he started while at Wake
  • Has two sisters, Cheryl and Tricia ... Tricia was a member of the Virgin Islands swim team in the 1988 Olympics
  • Has a large knife collection which includes a three-foot samurai sword
  • Admits to being afraid of heights and sharks

  • Has a block of 25 tickets to each Spurs home game which he donates to various San Antonio charities
  • Hosted the first annual Tim Duncan Bowling for Dollar$ Charity Bowl-A-Thon in January of 2000, raising over $100,000 for the American Cancer Society
  • Teamed-up with corporate partners Sprite and Ultramar Diamond Shamrock to create the Beat Cancer program, raising $50,000 for the Cancer Therapy and Research Center during the 1999-2000 season
  • Holds the annual Tim Duncan Charity Golf Classic to benefit the Kids Sports Network
  • Supports the Children's Bereavement Center and the Children's Center of San Antonio
